Dear 2010,
I feel I’ve been in this position before. I know of no other way to say this to you- except in a letter.
I think you and I are done. I think we’ve been done for a while, and I’ve just been biding my time.
I don’t want to be friends. I don’t want to pretend to care about how you are doing, or “touch base” now and then. I think it’s best if we sever all ties, and go our separate ways. I know it sounds harsh, but I’m tired of sugar coating things.
In truth, you’ve been a lot like 2009. And by that I mean you’ve been an ass.
I had very high hopes for us when my family moved into a new/old rental home with a nice yard for my kid and dogs. Hot Nerd was rockin’ it at work, and was promised a promotion… I thought perhaps you were the year I’ve been waiting for. But little did I know, that you actually gave us a home infested with rats, and invisible biting, rat and bird mites. We were attacked in our own home for over a month, and I personally was brought to within an inch of my sanity.
You probably felt pretty tough at that point- to have beaten me down so early. I realize now it was all a power play with you.
Because you did a good job at lulling me into a false sense of security. There was a good portion of time where things were uneventful. Sure there were the typical “grown up” problems, and the the occasional fight for a parking space. Sometimes even the simplest of things, like going to work out, was a challenge. But it was nothing I couldn’t handle… for a while.
However, you did give me one of the best vacations ever! I admit, I was very grateful for that. I’m not going to say it was all bad between you and I. But I am saying it was bad enough.
You busted Hot Nerd’s knee, which landed him in surgery, and kept him bedridden for weeks. But I tried my best to use that experience to grow, and declared myself to be in a state of Uncomfortable Kindness.
Then you blessed us with a pregnancy…
I suppose what I’m trying to say is- fucking stop it, 2010.
There is someone else, and that someone’s name is 2011.
And I have high hopes for us.
So goodbye.
Don’t write.
Don’t call.
And don’t bother apologizing, because I don’t think I forgive you.
You may, however, feel free to kiss my swaying ass as I walk away.
And if in the future you find me dancing in the arms of 2011-
Don’t try to approach us…
or say hi…
or even wave in our direction.
Because I’m sure I’ll pretend that we never even knew each other.
BEST BLOG EVER!!!!!! I had to read parts of it aloud to my fiance and my Mom!!! I second that emotion! 2010 was a slimy, icky PITA with a couple of high points. Let’s call it a day and ROCK 2011!!!!!!!!!!!!!

head and left me for dead but it did have its good points,as
well..like “meeting” you and forging a friendship with you.You’ve

Happy New Year, and here’s hoping 2011 is your year. Wow, you’ve definitely had your share of heartache for the year, I’m so sorry to hear that. I’m a little partial to 2010 since I did get married in it, but we had some ups and downs too. I’m really excited for what 2011 has to offer!
