Good Breakups. New Partnerships.

As a content creator, I’ve had a couple really good professional breakups this year.

One in particular was with a large media company that was just no longer financially or creatively fulfilling. I think I stayed as long as I did only because it felt good to say that I worked with them… but eventually the workload changed and the pay got smaller…

I reached out to the powers that be about renegotiating a contract (I hadn’t signed a new one at this point), but was quickly told there was no room in the budget for renegotiating. This very large media company with hundreds of creators and an overflow of revenue could have easily found room in the budget – I know they could’ve. They spend ridiculous amounts of money to hire celebrities to do campaigns with them. It was simply that they don’t pay decent money to creators who aren’t celebrities. Why should they? There are plenty of creators who will syndicate their stuff or create original work for them for very little… or for the “exposure”… and for some, that alone is worth it.

For where I am on my particular online journey, it is not.

It was the most simple, clean breakup I’ve ever had. I have nothing bad to say about the people I came into contact with there. They simply only pay creators x amount of dollars… and I simply do not work for  x amount dollars. Hugs. Kisses. Goodbye.

It felt so good to walk away from what was no longer serving me…

and it made room for other partnerships.

I hope you’ll follow me on my journey with some of these partnerships.

One of them involves video… and talking… and opinions… and input from YOU.

All things that I love.

I’d love it if you would join me and SheSpeaks in our new video series:

It’s about hot topics that have people bothered – that they have “issues” with… and we want you to tell me what those things are… and then we want some of you to be a part of the show!

Tweet me about anything you’ve read/seen online that has you hot and bothered and I’ll send it over to my producer. I’m @MommyNaniBooboo on Twitter.

I can’t wait to hear some of your topics… and I definitely can’t wait to get some of you on camera talking about it!

Enjoy the episode below:
