If You Bring A Farmer’s Market To Me, I’ll Love You Forever.

I don’t like to eat poison.

I don’t like to feed my family food that has spent it’s life soaking up some chemicals meant to repel or kill bugs.

I also try to stay away from these 13 things that the FDA still allows to be put in our food even though they are banned in other countries.

I like farmer’s markets – I can buy organic, support local growers, and pay a reasonable price.

I however do have a hard time finding everything I need at one farmer’s market, and don’t have the time to drag two kids to one market on a Thursday, to another on a Monday that’s only open during nap time, and then the grocery store on another day for toiletries and things I can’t find at a market.

If you can bring a farmer’s market to me… I’ll pretty much love you forever.

Enter SPUD.com: “Sustainable produce – urban delivery.”

They are my new best friend.

Not only do I get to save time by ordering my goods online and having it show up at my door, but I also get to feel good about myself for supporting a company who believes in sustainability.  They base their approach on the United Nations’ definition of sustainability: “sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.”

  • At least 50% of their products are locally sourced and 100% of their produce is either certified organic or local and sustainably produced.
  • There is very little non bio-degradable waste.  A cute, crunchy guy showed up at my door with two packed cardboard boxes – which they take back to their warehouse to be re-used, and almost no plastic.
  • They have an up-cycling program to collect and re-use hard to recycle items through TerraCycle.
  • They compost whatever food waste they have.

If you’re lucky enough to live in one of their delivery areas, you can shop healthy, organic, with a clean environmental conscience, and get free delivery if you spend over $25.  For goodness sakes do it.

The urban areas they serve are Seattle & the Eastern Puget Sound area, the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles & Orange County, Vancouver, Victoria & Vancouver Island to Nanaimo and Calgary.

If you don’t have a SPUD.com in your area, call someone important and tell them you need one.

Look at the farmer’s market that came to my kitchen:

… and I didn’t have to skip a nap, or bribe a child with too many snacks to get it.

Tummies full.

Fridge stocked.

Conscience clean.

Your welcome,

  1. Ooo that’s a genius idea! Why don’t they have one in Chicago?! And you know what I like most about it? I can probably pay credit, I never seem to be prepared enough for a farmers market with cash!
