Virtual ADD, information addiction, and my part in it all.

The world is suffering from virtual ADD.

In a society of “convenience” and “immediate gratification”, we’ve lost all patience when it comes to our online experience. We need quicker download times, and we want to read no more than five paragraphs and move on to the next website.

Please… pah-leeze… don’t ask us to focus on one blog post or news article for more than 3 minutes. Because, in reality- oh, shiny object!

In fact, the average time spent on a web page is 33 seconds.

The average time spent on an actual site is 56 seconds.

Not even a minute, people.

On top of that, I think we also suffer from information addiction.  We hear about a news story, we need to know the second the facts change, and the second there is an update.

For me, I get my fix from my twitter stream… then I go play with my son, return some emails, make a Play-Doh ball, and check my stream again… because I need  that fix. Who’s doing what? What’s happening where? Funny joke. Update on a news story. Pop Culture references… etc.

I don’t know what this says about our society. I don’t know if it’s good or bad.

I do know that I still enjoy sitting quietly, focusing, and opening a book. I like the sound of the pages. I like the tactile feel of it. I like the smell.

But when it comes to the internet- I want things fast.  And I want a lot of it.

I’m not going to fight it.

I’m going to embrace it.

So, for my readers with “Virtual ADD”- to help feed your “Information Addiction”, I bring you Jenni Chiu Plus…

It’s micro- blogging at it’s finest, and it’s filled with stuff you didn’t know you wanted to know… but you do. It will be updated several times a day with mini posts, videos, crap I’ve found on the web, pictures of my feet, promos, press releases, and deals I’ve found.

You know you want it.

Feed your addiction.

We’ll talk about rehab at a later date.

    • I wish I could claim this idea, but micro blogging has been around a little while. It hasn\’t really caught on fire yet… but now I\’ll be doing my best to fan the flames! ;)

Oh I hear you! I’m excited about Jenny Chiu Plus because I have the attention span of a goldfish. Not even. My A.D.D. is so apparent. When I read a post and it doesn’t capture me within 5 seconds, I close my browser. I’m a bitch.

  5. Yes, I am an addict- an alcohol and drug addict-but I am no longer active in that area, however, this sounds like it might be just as dangerous. I’m staying well away…but a good idea….maybe.

Ha! Not nearly as dangerous, my friend. At least, not yet. Never know, though… we may soon need a 12 step program for Information Addiction. I may even be first in line…
