Beautiful and Dangerous

I’m feeling philosophical, and I wanna know-
Why are some of the most beautiful things also the most dangerous? Is it a cruel trick by mother nature? Does beauty serve as a warning?

Take, for instance, something as simple as a rose bush. We have these in our back yard.

They smell lovely, and Bam Bam is fascinated by them. He loves to smell them, stroke them, swat at them…

He also says, “Raoose bush. Don’t touch it!” as he does so. And I freak out every time because of well, you know… these:

He knows he’s not supposed to touch it, but he can’t help it. They’re pretty. And big. And smell yummy. He’s also a toddler, and has to touch absolutely everything, but that’s beside the point. The point is- they’re enticing. THEY LOOK AWESOME.

And so does this…

This a Coral Snake. It’s pretty. The colors are beautiful together. I would like a beaded necklace made with these colors.

IT WILL KILL YOU.

But if you put this next to a plain, ole’ gray snake–  which one would you want to look at, get closer to, and reach out and touch?

Right?

Why is that?

And look at this little guy:

Isn’t he a little cutie pootie, Superman- looking, bright, colorful froggy?

He looks like a toy. The regular, puke green frogs, with the warts all over them? Not a big fan. But this little guy… well, he’s brightly colored and all shiny. I wanna scoop him up and put him in my pocket.

AT LEAST UNTIL HE KILLS ME.

Little Mr. Strawberry Poisonous Dart Frog is in reality very dangerous.

And did you know…

How sad is this?…

That the most beautiful sunsets, are probably the ones that aren’t very good for you?

I’m a sucker for a good sunset. I took this twilight picture a few months ago:

The kicker is, that for a really top notch, colorful sunset- you need a lot of particulate matter and atmospheric contamination.

Woo hoo.

Why, people, why?

Is beauty dangerous?

If so, why is it so enticing?

You know, I’ve just realized something…

So many of you have been asking me why I don’t post pictures of myself on my site. I’ve been toying with the idea, but now- I don’t think so.

I just CAN’T be responsible for that many lives.
